When? Wed Jul 4, 2018
Age: All ages
If you want to see the “largest display since the Millennial Celebration,” this 25-minute fireworks presentation will have a myriad of pyrotechnic designs and colors. There are several places where you can get great views of this magnificent fireworks show. The barges will be located along the East River from 24th to 42nd streets.
This is the fireworks display to see if you have the opportunity. It’s the most massive Independence Day fireworks presentation in the United States. It is anticipated that more than 3 million spectators will enjoy viewing it from various locations throughout Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and New York City. More than 12 million people in the United States will avoid the crowded streets and parks and join in this celebration by watching it on television. This live celebration can be seen on NBC’s two hour national broadcast of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” beginning at 8 pm ET/PT and 7 pm CT, with a one-hour encore presentation at 10 pm ET/PT, and 9 pm CT.
Live entertainment will include Blake Shelton and an extraordinary rendition of “God Bless America” by Kelly Clarkson to celebrate the songs 100th anniversary.
Things To Note:
The Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn Heights Promenade is no longer a prime location for viewing since the barges are closer to Midtown. So remember, the fireworks are not visible from any location at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

New features for 2018 include neon pinwheels, swirling water fountains, brocade horse tails, ghosting fans, blooming rings and pulsing hearts. There are also two more barges than in previous years which add to the fun.
Dress comfortable and be ready to stand or sit. You also need to make your decision and be at your viewing location several hours early. The New York Police Department (NYPD) will not allow backpacks, lawn chairs or other large items into the viewing areas.
Several family-friendly cruises still have tickets available. They begin at various times and locations for optimal viewing of the Macy’s Fourth Of July Fireworks in NYC.
Some recommended viewing locations for 2018 Fireworks Displays:
– East River State Park– FDR Drive At Houston Street:
This is a little further away from the main action and is designated as an official viewing spot by Macy’s. There should still be a clear vantage from East River State Park.
– East 16th Street and Avenue
Previously, this location has served as an official ADA-compliant place. While the show begins a 9 pm, crowds start arriving in the late afternoon.
– FDR Drive at 23rd Street
This location has the added benefit of having an elevated pedestrian ramp, making for a great vantage point to take in the show. It’s also close to a couple of the barges at the lower end of the chain.
– FDR Drive at 34th Street
The FDR Drive at 34th Street offers exceptional views and is a popular location which is sure to have a sizeable crowd. This location is also designated by Macy’s as an official viewing spot.
– FDR Drive at 42nd Street
This location is almost parallel to the barges where the fireworks will be set off. It’s sure to have a great view and also a large crowd.
The new Domino Park will be open. It has exceptional views and might be a location to get a decent view of the fireworks.
If you want less of a crowd and aren’t worried about a spectacular view of the fireworks, this location might work. It’s a little bit farther away and should have a decent view and be less crowded than other options.
This park is a spot, which is slightly closer to the fireworks than some of the places on the Williamsburg waterfront and should offer a great view of the fireworks.
– Long Island City – Gantry Plaza State Park – Hunter’s Point South Park
If you’re in Queens, you can find unobstructed firework views at Gantry Plaza and Hunter’s Point South Parks. Hunter’s Point South Park is directly beside several of the fireworks barges assuring you a stellar view of the fireworks. Get there early as it’s sure to be crowded.
