If you and the kids find nothing more spectacular and mesmerizing than Christmas and holiday lights, a trip to the Holiday Lights Spectacular is a must this holiday season. The event is free and begins on November 17. It is open every night from 5-9 pm (except for December 24-25). It takes place at the Essex County Turtleback Zoo and is a walkable light show. It features tons of sparkling lights and over 50 different animals and characters that are full of lights as well. Although the event is free, it is recommended you bring food and clothing donations to help make everyone’s holiday season merry and bright. This is one of the best holiday events in and around Jersey City.
You certainly don’t have to be Swedish to enjoy this festive Christmas event. There is a little something for everyone at this fair. There is a large selection of foods, gift, and crafts to browse through. What makes this even so unique is the handmade Swedish crafts like woodwork, linen, and decorations available for purchase. They will have a Swedish cafe filled with traditional food fare like waffles, open-faced sandwiches, coffee bread, and much more. You can win a ton of prizes and raffles as well and it is a great event to teach your children about other cultures and holiday traditions. Beginning in mid-November, The Stickley Museum puts on a magical holiday decorations display. Tours run Thursday through Sunday at 12:15, 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. This is a cool old world way to get into the holiday spirit and one of the best holiday events in and around Jersey City.
The Log House will be festooned for the holidays in period style with a focus on Gustav Stickley’s own ideas about the season. The show has been in production since 1933 and is one of the most timeless Christmas traditions in the entire country. The show features Santa, The Rockettes, and tap dancers galore. The sets are stunning and super magical for kicking off the holiday seasons and getting you and the kids into the Christmas spirit.
