Jersey City Public Schools Programs

Jersey City has a great list of programs for Pre-K and K-12 Schools that are free and can be accessed easily. Read on our blog to know more!

As parents, most of us go through the process of choosing a daycare or preschool for our little ones. If you are looking for more information about the Free Public Pre-K Program in Jersey City, you’ve come to the right place! Jersey City Public Schools have a Free Pre-K Program for residents in Jersey City, and parents who have a child who will be 3 years old on or before October 1 have a few options available.

Check the Attendance Zone to see the homeschool for your address.

If in the online portal, you do not see your homeschool and are unable to continue registration, please contact the Early Childhood Department by calling 201-915-6078 or emailing [email protected] .

Remember Pre-K3 is offered only at the following public schools P.S. #3, #5, #16/Danforth, #23, #24, #33, #37, and #39. If your homeschool is not any of this then for Pre-K3 you have to contact the Childcare Centers.

Pre-Kindergarten Registration

There are Public School Pre-K Programs and Contracted Child Care Centers.

Public School Pre-K Programs: The application is online. If you register by March 31st and the number of students registered exceeds the number of slots at your home school, the registered children will be entered into a lottery. Your child will be offered a placement at another public school location based on the lottery results. Transportation will be provided.

Contracted Child Care Centers: Please call the contracted child care center directly for registration and other inquiries.

Registration for both Public School Pre-K Programs and Contracted Child Care Centers every year usually opens on March 1st. You can read more about registration at the  Jersey City Public School website where you will find forms and a video about how to fill out the registration.

K-12 Schools Registration

Application is online and you need to access the Jersey City Public School website.
