Here’s an adorable and easy craft you can make with the kids this summer! This is a fun take on the traditional ‘pet rock’ and can easily be made with seashells found from your next beach vacation.

In addition to these cute seashell pets, you can make great pebble pets with rounded stones found on a walk by the beach.

Materials you will need:

  • Seashells {or rounded beach stones}

  • Permanent markers

  • Craft glue

  • Googly eyes

  • Yarn

  • Glitter glue or paint

  • Small paintbrush

  • Scissors for yarn

*I hunt for shells on every trip to the beach I take, but I noticed there are plenty available at the dollar store as well. Floral stores also sell them in the ‘accents’ section. If using shells or stones from the beach, make sure they are washed in warm water and dried thoroughly first before decorating.

Shell Creature #1 Simply add two dots of strong craft glue to the surface of a seashell and adhere two googly eyes. This is by far the easiest shell creature, and simple for children of all ages to complete.

Shell Creature #2  Using a permanent marker, add a face to the surface of your shell. Next dip a paintbrush into glitter paint or glue and cover the whole surface. Let dry completely before playtime.

Shell Creature #3 Cut a few pieces of yarn all the same length. Take another piece of yarn and tie it around the other pieces to secure like the photo above. Using craft glue, attach the yarn to the top of your shell for hair. Add a face with a permanent marker. Draw eyes with the marker or add two googly eyes with craft glue.

Shell Creature #4 This happy little shell is easy to make. Simply use a black permanent marker for the face and a pink one for the cheeks. If you don’t have a pink permanent marker, a little dab of red paint would work as well.

Display your pet shells in some sand and have fun playing with them! A cocktail umbrella is the perfect accessory for your shells. These can be found in any party store as well as other miniatures {such as plastic fish and whales} that can add lots of fun to your pet shells’ environment!
