Summer Fun: Pools and swimming lessons in Jersey City

Swimming Pools in Jersey City

It’s time to get out with the kids and head to the pool. As summer hits, we know how essential our pool days are. Here are some pools in Jersey City to take your little ones. Don’t know how to swim? No problem! Some facilities offer free or affordable swimming classes in a variety of age ranges, so there is surely a class that will work for you and your family. All Jersey City Residents must provide proof of residency & photo ID before entry is admitted to Jersey City pools. 


Pershing Field Pool(Open)

201 Central Ave

Pershing Field Pool is an indoor pool that is open all year round. Parking is available on the street or in the lot. Parking lot and street parking available. There is also a children’s playground with water sprinkler on-site.

Lafayette Pool & Aquatic Center(Open)

Lafayette Pool’s location is very convenient to downtown Jersey City and Liberty State Park. The pool offers a kiddie pool with water features and a slide, a larger pool, and a snack stand.

Pavonia Pool(Open)

Pavonia Pool is located in the West Side neighborhood of Jersey City. It has two pools.

Hudson Waterfront

British Swim School Hudson Waterfront offers premium swimming lessons for babies, kids and adults, starting from three months. Saint Peter’s Swimming Pool

The Aquatics Program at the Recreational Life Center offers the Saint Peter’s University community the opportunity to enjoy the lifetime sport of swimming and related activities. Swim lessons at the Yanitelli Center are taught by the Swim Stars Swim School.  Please contact Swim Stars Swim School at  (347) 712-0100 or the Swim Stars website.

Xcel is home to the ONLY Salt Water Pool in Hudson County! Their pool area offers a variety of water activities for both children and adults. You may also lounge on our sun deck with a fabulous view of the Manhattan skyline.

Hamilton Health and Fitness 

This convenient Hamilton Park location is a big hit with local families! They offer Children’s and Adult Swim programs.

Newport Swim and Fitness

33 River Drive South

Cool off any time of the year and splash into Newport Swim and Fitness’ elegant glass-covered indoor swimming pool. The pool is 1,500 sq. ft and boasts five full lanes. Need to brush up on your skills? They offer private swim lessons and group classes at varying skill levels.

Miss Yvonne’s Swim School

Swim school takes place over 10 consecutive weeks. Five levels of classes are available to choose from, based on your child’s current swim level. All levels have the opportunity to swim twice per week and practice an additional two times per week. You may sign up for as many weeks as you wish, with no minimum. Private lessons are also offered and can be arranged by contacting via email. Also, there are 30-minute drop-in classes offered for both infants (5 months – 2 years) and toddlers (3 – 4 years), in which you can get in the water with your child to try it out. You must pre-reserve a spot by calling or emailing in advance.


Want to cool off in the summer without having to go to the pool? There are plenty of sprinkler parks in Jersey City for your little ones to enjoy. After all, that summer fun enjoy a bite to eat from one of the many food options Jersey City has to offer and then finish with something sweet! How about ice cream?
