Dear Moms-
As you know, we have been hit with a serious tragedy with Hurricane Sandy at our doorsteps. We all have personally witnessed or had neighbors without water, power and heat. In light of these circumstances, if there is anyway as Newport moms we can extend our hands and homes to those in our community without power, we should do so.1. If you know a neighbor/community member needing help, please enter information here. Jersey City moms are trying to coordinate volunteers to help in any relief efforts.2. Hoboken and JC are hit hard. I can help coordinate a drop-off collection of the following items. I am in Avalon Cove, please leave items in a box outside Apt. #3547 or email me at[email protected],215-939-2630.Can we get some volunteers in other buildings to help with collection? If anyone else has a car and can help drop-off at JC Armory (678 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ) or Hoboken High School (8th and Clinton Streets, Hoboken, NJ), please let me know. I will collect items this weekend and drop off on Monday, Nov. 5.Items needed:–diapers, wipes and formula– water, canned goods and toiletries–blankets, coats– Hoboken City Hall also needs volunteers to go door to door in senior buildings and deliver food.(http://www.hobokennj.org/2012/11/important-updates-for-the-hoboken-community/)3. If there is a chance you have a free room or extra space in your living room, please consider hosting a fellow family out of power. Please reach out to friends and family, and friends of friends, to see if they need a couch, hot shower, phone recharging, water or place for kids to play. Please in this time of need, in the spirit of the holidays (Eid, Navratri,Karva Chauth, Diwali, Thanksgiving etc.), please engage in an act of selfless service. Our JC community needs you, please reach out.Note on current situation:Downtown JC225 Grand Street in Jersey City has many families with children and still have no power or water on the upper floors. Lobby has been set up as a shelter for people to microwave food and charge their devices
Gull’s Cove and the buildings by the Biergarten are also without power
Bright street, Grand Street and big parts of Paulus Hook have no electricity and/or water. The water is said to have come as high as 9 feet there and although it didn’t stay (as we see on the images of Hoboken) the damage is there and a lot of the basement apartments are pretty much inhabitable.
Bayonne is said to be without electricity.
In service,Roli -
