The JC Board of Education Election Day is fast approaching on Tuesday, April 17.

Please mark your calendar and consider voting for Vidya Ganghadin, Marilyn Roman, and myself, the Parents for Progress slate (ballot positions 2A, 4A, and 5A). Board of Ed elections typically have a very low voter turnout, but our schools affect every resident whether or not they have children.

      Consider the following: u00b7

The budget for the schools, over $600M, is bigger than the budget for the entire city. 55% of our property taxes go towards our public schools. Anyone whou2019s concerned about taxes should vote.u00b7

Our drop-out rate is 58%. About one in every 10 young male high school dropouts is in jail or juvenile detention, compared with one in 35 young male high school graduates. Anyone concerned about crime in Jersey City should vote.u00b7

There are 27,000 students in our public schools who depend on this system. Only in the last two election cycles have we seen winning candidates who were more concerned with those children than their own political aims. Anyone concerned with ending the culture of corruption in Hudson County should vote. u00b7

And finally- if you’re looking for more information about the candidates then here are some options:u00b7

Read the Jersey City Moms candidate questionnaire to understand candidate views on the issues most important to parents https://docs.google.com/openid=0B1G1tbfTMwDqR05HSk9WdWdSSkNvUnFWbncyN0g3UQu00b7 Attend the JC Moms meet and greet with the candidates on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30pm at 85 Wayne Street. u00b7

Attend the final debate at St. Pauls Church at 440 Hoboken Ave at 6pm on Friday, April 13u00b7

Post questions for the Parents for Progress slate on our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Jersey.City.Board.of.Education All registered voters are eligible to vote.

Thanks for helping to spread the word about the election and I look forward to seeing you at the polls on the 17th!
