Some of what makes the school unique:- MicroSociety based learning: The MicroSocietyu00ae program represents a new breed of learning environments. This research-based education program transforms classrooms by providing a real-world context for academic learning. Students collaborate with parents, business volunteers, and teachers to create a functioning small community within the school. Students spend one class period each day in their jobs where they learn to run businesses, apply technology, develop government and social agencies, and create cultural and arts organizations. Gradually, students become immersed in the realities of a free-market economy with taxes, property concerns, income issues and politics.
- Personalized Learning Planfor each student which will identify annual goals and academic strengths and weaknesses. Students, teachers and families will be jointly vested in ensuring that goals are successfully achieved
- Focus on inquiry-based learning, differentiated instruction, and student empowermentto encourage the the development of high-level reasoning and critical thinking skills
- Application of learned concepts to the real world through MicroSociety: From 3-4 pm daily, students create and manage real world systems such as businesses and government creating a miniature society within the school
- Small classes withno more than 22 children in each classroom
- Spanish classesaligned with needs of the student population
- Integration of technologyto support classroom instruction supplemented by a web-based system that enables parents to track their child’s progress and communicate with the school
- Extended school hours (4 -6 pm)to accommodate tutoring and extra-curricular activities
