Rebuilding Together Jersey City
The mission of Rebuilding Together is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families with children, live in warmth, safety, and independence! The New Jersey chapter is one of the many nation-wide affiliates of the largest, non-sectarian, nonprofit home rehabilitation organization in the United States. St. Lucy’s Shelter
St. Lucy’s Emergency Shelter is an emergency shelter facility for single women and men offering emergency housing and food for those in need. The shelter is monitored 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, year-round. St. Lucy’s Shelter meets with those in need and assess their situation. Then the shelter refers clients to one or more of the following services: welfare, SSI, unemployment, job training and job search, education and mental-health treatment programs and more. The shelter provides two meals a day, clothing as well as a shower program and outreach services for the unsheltered homeless. There are many ways to help and contribute. Women Rising
WomenRising has been providing the ingredients for change since 1905, making it a perfect fit on our list of Charitable Organizations in Jersey City! WomenRising is the foremost community-based organization for women in Hudson County and it assists women and their families to achieve self-sufficiency and live safe, productive and fulfilling lives, through social services, economic development, and advocacy services. Hoboken Grace in Hamilton Park
Since it began in 2008, Hoboken Grace has strived to show unbelievable and unconditional love for the community through religion. Whether it’s Sunday morning service or community event, Hoboken Grace wants to make sure you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
Hope House
Hope House is an emergency shelter for homeless women with children. Housing up to 20 mothers and their children, the program offers short-term supervised residence, including three meals a day, assessment/planning, case management, housing, education, food, and clothing. New City Kids
New City Kids offers after-school programs for local low-income youth. Children and teens get a chance to explore music and academics in a creative and fun environment! Backpacks For Life
Backpacks For Life is a Jersey City-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing a unique and personalized support system for homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. They effectively bridge the gap between veterans and the vast resources available to them in two ways: by regularly distributing backpacks filled with supplies and resources to homeless veterans and by mentoring homeless and/or at-risk veterans.
The BFL team designed and developed two backpacks specifically engineered to fit the needs of homeless and transitioning veterans: The Bowery Pack and The Urban Pack. The Bowery Pack possesses various safety and security features to support a veteran living on the streets or in a shelter. These features include but are not limited to a locking cable, a detachable toiletry kit, an emergency whistle, and a folding sleep mat. The Urban Pack, which is smaller in size, is geared toward veterans transitioning into permanent housing or going to job interviews, school, or work. Overcomplicated intake processes as well as outdated websites and program information, often lead veterans to points of frustration and giving up in their search for the care that they need. Aiming to save the enormous amounts of time wasted by veterans searching for resources, their team developed ROGER, a comprehensive search platform for the New Jersey veteran community. ROGER is an online search platform designed to help veterans and their families find programs, resources, and care tailored to their specific needs. The platform offers focused search capabilities to help veterans find solutions quickly and efficiently in addition to enabling the BFL team to take our mentorship capabilities to a larger scale.
Ukrainian JC
Ukrainian Jersey City is a charitable non-profit 501(c)(3) organization focused on promoting Ukrainian modern culture and providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine. It was started in 2020 by a small group of people with the same idea to create a strong community and rise awareness about their homeland. They are a volunteer-based organization and fortunate to have a large contingent of dedicated volunteers who support the organization’s mission by cultural events and programs, refugee support, humanitarian programs and contributing to various business operations.
