Earth Day activities and celebrations in Jersey City & Hoboken
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to raise awareness and inspire action for environmental protection. It began in 1970 in the United States and has since grown into a global movement involving over 190 countries. The day focuses on issues like climate change, pollution, deforestation, and the need for sustainable living, encouraging individuals, communities, and governments to take meaningful steps toward protecting our planet. And guess what? The date April 22 was chosen since that kind of falls between the spring break and final exams of the US students. The idea was that kids should be able to easily participate and be aware of the importance of taking care of this beautiful planet.
Celebrating Earth Day is not only fun but didactic as well. Activities include community cleanups, tree plantings, educational events, and sustainability fairs. Schools, organizations, and cities are actively involved in hosting workshops, nature walks, and recycling drives. The objective is to raise environmental awareness. There are also global campaigns promoting climate action and eco-friendly living.
This year, 2025, marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, with the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” emphasizing the global push for renewable energy and climate action.
