Passing this along from the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association, with school about to start the park is going to see an uptick in usage…

This spring and summer the trees and other features in Hamilton Park have taken a battering from active children. The trees have been damaged from children climbing weakened branches, grabbing tree limbs and ripping them, and stomping on shrubs. We need your help in educating our children about protecting the trees and other features in Hamilton Park. These trees provide us shade in the summer and a respite from the urban setting where we live.

The evergreen tree that’s lit during the holidays has suffered significant damage from children climbing on the inside branches. Unfortunately, this particular type of evergreen does not respond to pruning or rejuvenation after branches are broken.

In an effort to control the damage to the trees, low hanging limbs will be trimmed, minimizing the temptation to pull and tug on the branches. We’re asking that you please discourage your children from tugging on branches, stomping on shrubs and climbing on weakened branches. Not only do these actions damage the trees, but they are unsafe for our children.

In addition, the water features have been clogged and damaged by children pushing small sticks and pebbles in drains in the drinking fountain, spray park and water fountain.

We are all the stewards of Hamilton Park. As such, we are responsible for protecting and preserving its beauty. Please do your part to protect the park and educate your children about the importance of caring for the park.
