10 Things To Do At Home With Kids
When you find yourself stuck at home with the kids during this chaotic time, you are probably waiting on pins and needles for those two dreaded words: “I’m bored!”. And it is inevitable, it is going to happen. But don’t despair! There are many fun things to do at home with kids, which will drag them away from TV and gaming consoles. To help you out, we put a list of 10 great indoor activities that will keep the kids entertained. Try these fun activities and you will never hear “I’m bored” again and your kiddos will be happy while at home.
1) Doing arts & crafts
You probably know that kids are visual about everything that happens around them. The best way for kids to express their thoughts and emotions includes art and crafts. They can use countless different materials and shape it in any way they want. If you don’t know where to start, just go on Youtube and you will find a ton of DIY crafts to do at home with kids. You can make some painting projects or make a beautiful collage, and when you do it together you will see how much they will love you for it. Make their life more colorful and crafty, even though you will have to clean up the mess.
2) Kid’s gym
One of the most fun things to do at home with kids is to make a kid’s gym. You can transform one of the rooms into a gym and create some fun sports stations. They can do time jumping on the spot or have a competition in a hula hoop. You can try somersaults on the carpet with them if they are old enough. You can take advantage of these fun exercises and make them help you around the house. If you use a stopwatch to time the duration of the activity then even unpacking can be fun for kids or any other thing that needs to be done in the house.
3) Have a birthday party for your kid’s favorite toy
Kids love parties, this will most certainly be one of the favorite games in the house. This activity requires only your imagination and you can make the celebration as big as you want. You can make a small tea party or a big party with music, balloons, treats. You can even make a cake for them!
4) Cooking with the kids
Cooking with kids is not just a fun activity to do at home, but through cooking, they also practice some fine motor skills and boost their confidence. Even better, helping in the kitchen and having fun with fruit and vegetables can tempt them to try something new and maybe add fresh veg or two to their limited repertoire. You can even bake cookies and cupcakes as a sweet treat for later.
5) Experiments
Kids are naturally curious and all we have to do is nurture their curiosity. There are a ton of resources on YouTube for examples. Experiments can be a fun and educational activity to do with kids at home. Getting kids involved with science experiments is beneficial in so many levels:
- it enhances their intellectual curiosity
- improves their problem-solving abilities
- boosts their analytic skills
- and finally, it is one of the most entertaining things to do at home with kids.
6) Make Music
You will have so much fun having a family orchestra! You can get all your instruments out and practice a few simple tunes together. Or, make a homemade version using some kitchen utilities and have your kids making “instruments” to play together. Why not record the “band’s” first song, and you will enjoy watching it afterward.
7) Go on a treasure hunt
Draw a map of your home and hide some small items around the house. Mark each piece of a hidden treasure on the map and explain the map to your little ones. After they found all the treasure, reward them with some candy. They can also create their map and organize their hunt. So much fun, isn’t it?
8) Indoor fashion show
If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do with your kids at home, why not make an indoor fashion show. Kids love dressing up and all you have to do is set a stage in your living room and play some fun background music. You can create a mix of your kids’ favorite songs and play them during the show. No fashion show would be complete without someone taking photos, so you can be that photographer who will make such a great memory.
9) Get messy with play dough
Playdough is fun and popular with young kids and they love getting messy with play dough. Apart from making a mess, using playdough for young children is beneficial for their development in so many ways and there are many learning opportunities along the way. Not only is play dough a fun thing to do at home with kids, but it helps strengthen little hand muscles and stimulates hand-eye coordination, plus the possibilities for creativity and imaginative play are endless.
10) Make a den or cave
No child who doesn’t like to play and build in dens or caves. Children’s imagination goes wild with this activity. From planning the build to playing inside of it, every step is an absolute pleasure. They can come up with exciting role-play or simply enjoy the change of scene and play with their toys “hidden” in the cave. They can use a blanket or a bed sheet and cover a table to create a stable den and your kids will have some great fun.
Apart from being fun, these activities are also intended to allow parents to make their kids’ daily life a bit bit more enjoyable. Since this is our “new normal” for now let’s create a fun and educational environment for our children while they are at home with us.
