Best Places to Live in Jersey City

The Top 5 Best Places to Live in Jersey City

There are a ton of places to live in Jersey City. It can be challenging to pick the best place to live for you and your family. In this post, we will take a look at some of the best places to live in Jersey City. We will consider location, price, safety, income, and local amenities (like restaurants, shops, etc.) Below are a few of the greatest places to live for you and your family.

The Waterfront

The Waterfront in ranked #1 place to live in Jersey City by a landslide. It is also ranked #1 waterfront in the entire state of NJ as well. This area has tons of shops and restaurants that will keep your family busy and happy. It also has tons of parks, fitness centers, recreational area, and grocery stores. It’s truly an area filled with everything you could ever need within a short distance.

Crimes rates are very low – at 60% less than any other place in JC. Employment rate and income level are quite high, public education receives a solid B+, and the housing market is 10% higher than the rest of JC. However, cost of living is quite high compared to the rest of the state. JC is 8% higher than the state average in living costs. Best of all, JC waterfront is a stunning location, with many condos and apartments having views of the water and the NYC skyline.

Liberty Park

Liberty Park is ranked #2 in the best places to live in Jersey City. It has high income per capita, low crimes rates, a very stable and secure housing market, and has a lot of amenities. One of the best parts about this area of JC is the fact that it is right by the infamous Liberty Park. This is a fantastic area for walking, running, sports, picnics, and any other form of recreation. There are also tons of events that go on within the park – the most notable being the 4th of July fireworks and celebration. It’s a great area for fun and active families.

Liberty Park also has good school systems with high graduation rates, household income at 156% higher than other sections of JC, and low crimes rates making it a very safe place to raise a family. Just like most other areas of JC, living costs are quite high, so you must be prepared to expect expensive houses and high living costs overall.

Downtown

Downtown living is great for young families really looking to feel like they live in a city environment. There are a ton of places to eat, drink, shop, and walk around making it one of the best places to live in Jersey City. The crime rate is quite low for a downtown city, although slightly higher than some other JC neighborhoods. Employment, weather, and housing all receive strong, solid scores.

However, some downfalls of downtown is a relatively low education rating (D) and the very high cost of living. If you are looking to move your family into the downtown area, you may want to consider sending older kids to better quality private schools. However, you should take into consideration the high cost of living and your ability to easily afford pricey private schools for multiple kids.

Hackensack Waterfront

Hackensack Waterfront is an urban area, but with a decent amount of the cozy neighborhood feel compared to the JC downtown. It is a quiet area to live without a ton of commotion, but it is close to a bunch of great amenities as well. This area has a higher crime rate compared to some other areas of JC, so it is important to keep this in mind when considering the Hackensack Waterfront as a potential location to move your family.

Education and schools receive a B- rating, housing is 8% lower than the rest of JC, and there are a good amount of amenities. However, it is important to note that employment is a bit lower than some other areas of JC. Overall, Hackensack waterfront is a good location for families looking for a quiet, yet urban neighborhood feel. It is definitely one of the best places to live in Jersey City.

Grove Street

This is a stunning street in Jersey City. It’s filled with older, character filled brownstones, a good amount of restaurants, and things to do. It’s a very walkable street located in downtown area. Port Authority of NJ and NY is located on this street as well, making it awesome for commuters who go to NYC for work on a daily basis.

It’s a great street for younger families and couples looking to start a family in the near future! The NY Times says, “The New Jersey area has blossomed with the opening of more than a dozen stylish restaurants, bars, and shops, joining longtime establishments that help it retain a tempo slightly slower than that across the Hudson River.”
