There is almost no better than the time of year then when we are surrounded by holidays. It’s a time filled with happiness, cheer, delicious foods, cozy fires, and family. Furthermore, the holiday season always means tons and tons of special events are taking place as well. Thankfully, Jersey City is a town that has plenty of holiday cheer to offer. If you and the kids find nothing more spectacular and mesmerizing than Christmas and holiday lights, a trip to the Holiday Lights Spectacular is a must this holiday season. The event is free and begins on November 17. It is open every night from 5-9 pm (except for December 24-25). It takes place at the Essex County Turtleback Zoo and is a walkable light show. It features tons of sparkling lights and over 50 different animals and characters that are full of lights as well. Although the event is free, it is recommended you bring food and clothing donations to help make everyone’s holiday season merry and bright. You certainly don’t have to be Swedish to enjoy this festive Christmas event. There is a little something for everyone at this fair. There is a large selection of foods, gift, and crafts to browse through. What makes this even so unique is the handmade Swedish crafts like woodwork, linen, and decorations available for purchase. They will have a Swedish cafe filled with traditional food fare like waffles, open-faced sandwiches, coffee bread, and much more. You can win a ton of prizes and raffles as well and it is a great event to teach your children about other cultures and holiday traditions. This is one of the most unique holiday events in and around Jersey City. The event takes place Sunday, November 19th from 10 am to 6 pm.
Beginning in mid-November, The Stickley Museum puts on a magical holiday decorations display. Tours run Thursday through Sunday at 12:15, 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. This is a cool old world way to get into the holiday spirit and one of the best holiday events in and around Jersey City.
The Log House will be festooned for the holidays in period style with a focus on Gustav Stickley’s own ideas about the season. Using holiday greens, pinecones, and the home’s forest palette, the decorations bring nature indoors and spotlight the Arts and Crafts movement’s emphasis on finding beauty in simplicity and natural materials.
On November 27 at 4 pm, Newark will be having their annual tree lighting. There will be festive music, pictures with Santa with a special holiday gift, bouncy house, synthetic ice skating rink, a trackless train, numerous carnival games, children’s characters, and Victorian carolers. The tree lighting will take place at 6 pm. There will be lot and street parking and the rain date is the 26th. The whole event is free.
This is an annual event in Chester, NJ and is a charitable event with the goal to raise awareness and support for the Senior Resource Center (SRC). The event takes place from December 2 to the 9th. The Nutcracker by the NJ Ballet is the longest running original production in the entire state of NJ. It is a classic show that is perfect for the whole family. With stunning stage sets, beautiful dancing, and out of this work music, this is a special treat for the whole family to go and see. Shows run from December 4 to the 24 with tons of show times so you can surely fit in your trip to this holiday ballet.
If you are looking for a fun event, but one that also gets you outside and active, look no further than this charity run. It is put on to support The American Cancer Fund. It is a 5k fun run and5-mile walk. The run is lead by Santa Clause and you must be registered by November 15th to receive your Santa hat. “Come out and enjoy holiday music, hot cocoa, prizes and local vendors and food trucks. Children will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Santa your free Santa hat. ” Cost is $8 16 & Under, $25 Adults.
On December 2, 2017, to Dec 9, from 5:30 PM until 09:00 PM, this drop-off event is designed especially for kids. With everything included, this is one of the coolest holiday events in and around Jersey City for the kids. The cost is $35 per child or $60 for siblings. Included in the price is:

- Art Project: Your child will create a great craft during our art class.

This annual event takes place at the Pedestrian Mall on December 7th 6:45 pm. This is a free event that is perfect for the whole family to attend. There will be free fresh cookies for the kids, music, and more. Santa will be there are there will be refreshments served all throughout the event.
On December 9 and 10 from 12-6:60 pm, this craft fair and market will feature a warm and cozy shopping village in a heated and toasty tent. There will be a ton of arts, crafts, and specialty goods to browse through like art, jewelry, home accessories, clothing, and much more. All prices are very budget friendly and make great holiday gifts for all family and friends. There will also be tasty holiday treats and live entertainment. Plus, for the adults, holiday cocktails will be served. Santa will be there for pictures with the kids, fun fingerless gloves will be given away, SWAG bags will be given away, and more free holiday goodies.
On December 5th, at 5 pm, Hoboken will have their annual Christmas Tree Lighting. This year, they will have Elvis the Elf and an appearance by the one and only Santa Clause. There will be tons of live performances, music, and prized and giveaways! The lighting takes place in front of City Hall. It is a great, fun safe, and festive way to really kick off the holiday season with the whole family. The event is free.
On December 2-3 from 11 am to 5 pm, the City Hall Holiday Craft Fair will take place in Hoboken. There will be unique and fun holiday items from local vendors and businesses. Items will include things like: “art, jewelry, fashion accessories, pottery, wooden home decor, hand knit scarves, hats, mittens, baby sweaters, baby clothes, Silly Chilly hot sauce, holiday ornaments & gift wrap, soap & body products, candles, sachets, dog & cat treats, hot & cold compresses & much more.”
Furthermore, Mrs. Clause will be doing face painting for kids on the second floor of City Hall! This is a perfect holiday event to attend with the whole family as there will be a little something for everyone. Plus, you can get some holiday shopping done and support local businesses for the holiday season.
From November 10-January 2018, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is something you should do with the family at least once. The show has been in production since 1933 and is one of the most timeless Christmas traditions in the entire country. The show features Santa, The Rockettes, and tap dancers galore. The sets are stunning and super magical for kicking off the holiday seasons and getting you and the kids into the Christmas spirit. This is a must see show and one of the best holiday events in and around Jersey City.
From free ice skating on a 17,000 square foot outdoor rink to more than 150 holiday shops to some of the most delicious food vendors and eateries, this is a holiday event not to miss. You can get some holiday shopping done, chow down on holiday treats, and skate until your heart in content. Bring your own skates though if you don’t want to pay the $20 rental fee! This is truly a magical winter village and one of the greatest holiday events in and around Jersey City.

All music is performed by favorite local musicians and they may also throw in some of their own original holiday songs as well! The event will take place on Sunday, December 18, 2016, doors open at 5:30 pm and admission is $10.00. The admissions fee will go to support Hoboken’s Movies Under the Stars Outdoor Summer Series.
