Hamilton Park Montessori School
Located in picturesque Hamilton Park in Jersey City, Hamilton Park Montessori School. It is an 8-minute walk from the NJ path and 6 blocks from the Holland tunnel.
In 2006 when Hamilton Park Montessori School (HPMS)—a New Jersey non-profit corporation—opened the doors of its first early childhood classroom with 10 students, is committed to a whole-child approach to education—one that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child. Almost 2 decades later, as one of the largest Montessori schools in New Jersey going up through 8th grade, HPMS continues to nurture each child’s love of learning.
The Montessori Method
More than 110 years ago, Dr. Maria Montessori started an educational method that continues to be validated by modern scientific research. Dr. Montessori, an Italian physician and scientist believed that each child is unique and learns at their own pace. This innovative thinking shaped a new type of learning environment designed to spark each child’s individual interests, fueling curiosity and hands-on exploration for a life-long love of learning.

Mission
Hamilton Park Montessori School educates children from infancy through eighth grade, following the vision of Maria Montessori, who was thrice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy of children and her work toward world peace. Built on Montessori’s values and scientific observation of the nature of learning, HMPS’ curriculum lays a sound foundation in mathematics, language, geography, science and social science, creative arts, physical movement, sensory learning, and practical living.
Programs
With numerous programs, there is a spot for everyone at HMPS.
– Bridge Program: This program serves the youngest students (2.5-3 years old), bridging the gap between home early childhood learning environments with smaller classrooms and intimate group sizes.
– Early Childhood Program: This program serves students aged 3 to 6 years old. Emphasizing mixed age groupings to foster peer mentorship among students.

Application Process
The application process is 4 easy steps, each designed to help you get to know the school better:
Step 1: Visit during the Open House on April 22, 2023, and during a scheduled “First Step” session. The open house will be on both campuses (Lower School Campus at 1 McWilliams Place and Upper School Campus at 175 8th Street; if your child is in 1st through 8th grade, they may join the Open House on our Upper School Campus).
First Step sessions are conducted in-person and via Zoom (lasting about 60 minutes) so families can get to know our school, mission, and philosophy and meet our leadership team. Get more information here.
Step 2: Classroom Observation: Parents are invited to observe in a classroom (for your child’s program) during the school day. Afterward, meet with the Admissions team to share your impressions and ask any questions you may have.
Step 3: Submit your Online Application & go in for a Child Visit. You will then hear back to schedule a Child Visit (also called a “Student Visit” for students in grades 1-8) for your child to meet with one of the teachers and share some moments interacting with each other so that they may get to know your child.
Step 4: Personal Follow-Up – Join the Head of School, Ms. Alexa, online for a 15-minute meeting to get in touch and ask any follow-up questions.
