Swimming Pools in Jersey City

Here are some pools in Jersey City to which you can take your little ones. Don’t know how to swim? No problem! Some facilities offer free or affordable swimming classes for a variety of age ranges, so there is surely a class that will work for you and your family. Jersey City residents must provide proof of residency and photo ID for entry to a Jersey City pool. 

Pools

Pershing Field Pool (closed for the season)

201 Central Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07307

Pershing Field Pool is an indoor pool that is open all year round. The pool starts at 3.5 feet and goes to 12 feet deep. There are 6 lanes and 1 lap is 25 meters in distance. Parking lot and street parking are available. There is also a children’s playground with a water sprinkler on-site. The website lists the days and hours of operation. It is closed on city holidays.

Lafayette Pool & Aquatic Center (closed for the season)

303 Van Horne Street, Jersey City, NJ 07305

Lafayette Pool’s location is very convenient to downtown Jersey City and Liberty State Park. The pool offers a kiddie pool with water features and a slide, a larger pool, and a snack stand. The main pool goes from 3.5 feet to 9 feet and the kiddie pool goes from 0 feet to 3.5 feet.

Pavonia Pool (closed for the season)

914 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306

Pavonia Pool is located in the West Side neighborhood of Jersey City. It has two pools. The main pool goes from 3.5 feet to 5.4 feet and the kiddie pool goes from 0 feet to 3 feet.

Swim Stars

The mission of Swim Stars is to provide quality swim lessons to all of their clients. Their vision is to create a learning environment where all of their customers feel safe and comfortable in the water. Providing both learn-to-swim and competitive swim lessons to all ages, they believe that swimming is a lifelong skill that should be enjoyed by everyone. At Swim Stars, each student receives personalized attention to help them reach their individual aquatic goals. Classes are taught at Saint Peter’s University pool. 

XCEL

125 Marshall Street,7th Floor, Hoboken

XCEL is home to the ONLY salt water pool in Hudson County! And it is heated! The pool area offers a variety of water activities for both children and adults including swim lessons. Swim programs are available for babies from 6 months old on up to people 3 years of age and older. You may also lounge on our sun deck with a fabulous view of the Manhattan skyline.

Newport Swim and Fitness

33 River Drive South, Jersey City, 07302

Newport Swim and Fitness offer a large indoor pool and swimming lessons to members and non-members. Cool off any time of the year and splash into Newport Swim and Fitness’ elegant glass-covered indoor swimming pool. The pool is 1,500 sq. ft and boasts five full lanes. Need to brush up on your skills? They offer private swim lessons and group classes at varying skill levels. Classes are available by appointment only

Miss Yvonne’s Swim School 

Four Fitness Hamilton Park, 161 Erie Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302

MYSS operates off of six progression-based levels.  All classes are 30 minutes long and operate with a 4:1 swimmer-to-instructor ratio. Swimmers are evaluated and placed in groups based on their current aquatic skills and abilities. Class passes offer the ability to block 10 or 20 weekly classes, respectively. They offer Mommy & Me and Mama y Yo (en Español) classes. And they offer a School Days Off Camp. Register for a session in advance here.

Swimming in a pool, any time of the year, offers many benefits. It is great exercise, it lifts the spirts, and is an excellent activity for the whole family to participate in. Another fun activity for the whole family is visiting a family-friendly farm. Or perhaps going to a local Jersey City park for a picnic or to get some exercise on the playground.
