We highly recommend checking these places, they are perfect for a summer day and a great experience. Some of these are an hour or two away from Jersey City, and some are right in the heart of downtown. So, keep that in mind before booking! Volunteers run the show and organize 100% of the Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse. They welcome donations. In 2004 a group of kayaking enthusiasts, with help from the City of Hoboken and Downtown Boathouse of New York City, began offering free kayaking to the public. At the moment, they are offering free paddle days. It is free but donate to keep the running. Check their schedule here.

Winding River Campground

Winding River Campground is open for camping, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. The playground, basketball, volleyball, pool, and rec hall are closed. Take a trip down the shore to enjoy a day of activities. Keep in mind they are about an hour and 30 minutes away from Jersey City , soit would be perfect for a weekend trip, and I ealso enjoy camping.

Lakeview Marina

Monksville Reservoir is a beautiful and serene reservoir in the New Jersey Highlands, Long Pond Ironworks State Park. The reservoir has a surface area of 505 acres and spans about three miles from end to end. The reservoir is surrounded by forest, including hiking trails such as the Monks Trail Circular. While easily accessible from NYC and other densely populated areas of NJ, Monksville is secluded, rustic, and peaceful. It is about an hour from Jersey City.
