Intrepid Gym Jersey City

Intrepid Gym Jersey City

Meet Adam Kant and Joan Lazar of the newest gym in Jersey City: Intrepid Gym Jersey City!

Adam is lover of all things fitness and the owner of Intrepid Gyms. He started with the first location in Hoboken back in 2011, which he lovingly refers to as his baby. He then opened his second location in Montclair, New Jersey in 2016. Finally, he opened up the Jersey City location very recently in April. And some exciting news – a location in Madison, New Jersey is also in the works.

Joan is the Manager of the Jersey City location as well as a personal trainer at both the Jersey City and Hoboken locations. She has a degree in exercise science and calls fitness her one true love! She has a passion for teaching and never stops learning when it comes to exercise and movement. In other words, what more could you ask for in a gym manager?

Intrepid Gym Jersey City is conveniently located at 255 Brunswick Street in the Hamilton Park neighborhood in Jersey City, right above Kiddie Academy! In other words, it is the perfect gym for those dropping off their kids at daycare to stop by at and take some time for themselves!

So why did Intrepid Gyms begin?

Adam started Intrepid Gyms because he wanted to create a third space for people outside of the home and work space. He saw an opportunity to create a space that fosters community and wanted to create a place that people can go to make friends with people who are all focusing on the same thing: bettering themselves.

After opening locations in Hoboken and Montclair, Adam and Joan decided on opening up a new location in Jersey City for a number of reasons. First of all, they are both Jersey City locals, calling The Heights home. Additionally, Jersey City is booming with new residences and businesses popping up everywhere! In other words, it is constantly expanding! They wanted to create a community based gym for all the people who call Jersey City home.

Intrepid is a great option for your workouts as they offer a wide range of classes at various times throughout the day. With their morning classes at 5:45 AM and 6:30 AM you can get your workout in before work and start your day off on the right foot. A class at 9 AM is perfect for parents dropping their kids off at school, camp or daycare. They can kiss their kids goodbye and then come to Intrepid Gym Jersey City to take part in either bootcamp or yoga. Finally, for those who like to get their sweat on at the end of the day, classes are offered at 5:30 PM and 7 PM as well.

While the class times are vast, so are the class options! From bootcamps, to yoga, from TRX to rowing – Intrepid offers something for everyone! You can check their class schedule at www.intrepidgym.com/jerseycity and find a class that works for you! But theres more – your standard classes are not all they offer!

On August 11th, Intrepid Gym Jersey City will be hosting their first ever Jersey City Adventure Run. They have partnered up with many local spots throughout Jersey City and starting at the Gym, participants will run from location to location picking up tickets. The more tickets one collects, the higher their odds of winning as the tickets will be entered into a raffle and randomly drawn to select winners to receive prizes from the participating local businesses. The event is completely free, all you have to do is register with the gym by emailing them at [email protected].

Another upcoming event includes your two favorite things – Yoga and Wine. Stay tuned for more information on that!

Another non-class offer is that Intrepid is willing to rent out their space hourly to local trainers at a very reasonable cost. To inquire – email Intrepid Gym Jersey City at [email protected].

Aside from available space, Intrepid boasts brand new equipment, a fresh and clean environment and fancy bathrooms and showers!

So lets talk pricing! Intrepid Gym Jersey City is very reasonable and offers packages including a 1-year commitment (which is the cheapest option), a 3-month commitment, month-to-month pricing as well as 5 and 10 class packages! The choice is totally yours!

For any other questions, feel free to email [email protected] or visit their website at www.intrepidgym.com/jerseycity! Additionally, check them out on Instagram and Facebook at @intrepidgymjc!

Community Compost Company Jersey City

Community Compost Company Jersey City: Compost! Building a Better Future

Andrea Rodriguez/ Community Compost Company

Over the past three years, Community Compost Company has serviced residents and local businesses in Jersey City, diverting nearly 57,000 LBS of food waste from landfills. Composting is another form of recycling in which food scraps are separated from the rest of our waste and combined with other materials (such as leaves, wood chips and manure) that will decompose, with the proper moisture levels and aeration, into an amendment that can be added to the soil to rebuild health and structure.

In honor of International Compost Awareness Week, we are here to share just how beneficial composting an apple core, banana peel, and every other food scrap is, to you, your family and the Jersey City Community.

Grow healthy plants and food

Compost helps your local farmers and gardeners maintain high quality soil, reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides. It supplies nutrients to enrich soil, which is necessary for healthy plant growth. So the peppers and cucumbers you buy at JC’s farmers markets, are great reasons to start composting.

Improves air and water quality

Many don’t realize that garbage from Jersey City is transported to a landfill in West Virginia. By removing and processing organic materials locally, we’re reducing the emissions associated with transporting, and in the process, improving the air quality and public health in our city. Compost also retains water, which reduces watering needs and prevents erosion and flooding.

Reduce food waste

Each family member tosses about 300 LBS of food every year. A family of four loses $1,500 a year on wasted food, and throughout the US, 40% of all food grown and produced ends up in the garbage. As you separate food scraps from the rest of your trash, you are much more aware of how much food you throw away. This allows you to change your shopping habits and save money by only buying what you need.

Develop new green jobs to improve the local economy

Community Compost Company has employees who live and work in Jersey City!

Protect the environment

Organic materials (comprised of food scraps, yard trimmings, wood waste, and paper products) are the largest components of solid “waste” ending up in landfills. Once there, these materials are forced to decompose without oxygen, which creates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By diverting organic material from the waste stream, we help families cut their carbon footprint.

These are just a few of the many benefits of recycling your food scraps and using compost. New customers can sign up to receive their first month free with promo
