Playgrounds & Parks in Hoboken

The sun is shining, and the weather is perfect for families to step out and enjoy a local park. Local playgrounds are a great free and fun option. Luckily, Hoboken residents have a ton of options when it comes to playgrounds. If you want other fun things to do in the summer, check out sprinkler parks or visit an outdoor restaurant in Hoboken. 

Church Square Park

On Garden St. Btw 4th & 5th St

Church Square Park is perfect to check out on a hot summer day. It is quite popular in the community and has four separate playgrounds. The playgrounds are for all ages. It includes a gated playground for toddlers. Additionally, it also has a gazebo, chess tables, basketball courts, and more. It’s a great playground in Hoboken, loved by locals.

Columbus Square Park

Clinton Street between 9th and 10th Streets

This park was renovated in 2019. Columbus Square Park has multiple athletic courts, including a multi-use with a half basketball court, three lighted tennis courts, bocce courts, a shuffleboard court, and a hitting wall. Children can enjoy two playgrounds and a spray park to cool off during the hot summer days.

Elysian Park

On Hudson St. Btw 10th &11th St.

Close to the waterfront, this location is great for families living uptown. Elysian Park allows you many options to walk around with your little ones. This area has great views, a splash pad, and a basketball court.

Jackson Street Park

Jackson Street and 1st Street (120 Jackson St. Hoboken)

Tucked away in a quiet area of Hoboken Jackson Street Park is a quaint little park. This enclosed playground features a brand new playground and sprinkler arches ready to enjoy in the summer. It is a nice shaded playground area perfect for toddlers and little children. Since it is shaded, it is suitable for the summer months.

Madison Park

Located on Madison Street and 3rd Street

Hudson County awarded the City of Hoboken a $500,000 grant for Madison Street Park Playground improvements through the Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund. It reopened in 2019. It is bright and beautiful in the summer. The park is open to the public from 8 AM-8 PM. Additionally, the renovated park has new sections of playground equipment for children and includes an upgraded sprinkler park, new swing sets, a climbing net, and a pair of African xylophones.

Pier A Park 

100 Sinatra Dr. Hoboken

Pier A Park is a beautiful spot to check out on the weekend in the summer. They have an inviting park and lawn area to enjoy! In addition, The Pier A fountain is huge and shoots up several feet high, making it an excellent space for tons of kids to run in and out of the water to cool off. There’s a gazebo here; if you are interested in fishing, that is possible too.

Pier C Park

340 Sinatra Drive, Hoboken

Pier C Park

Pier C Park is a place to relax, reflect, and enjoy the Hudson River. The park is at the end of a long pier, along the Waterfront Walkway that provides stunning views of Manhattan and Hoboken. It has a promenade that provides ample space for activities and seating for visitors. Pier C Park also features a number of other amenities and attractions, making it a perfect destination for a day of outdoor fun. Since it is close to other attractions in the city, it is convenient for tourists.

Legion Park

1225 Willow Avenue, Hoboken

Legion is a little park between Willow Avenue and 13th Street. Kids can enjoy the little playground and the frog and flower sprayers. There isn’t much equipment here but it’s good for toddlers and little ones.   It’s well-shaded, so that’s an advantage on sunny days. People might mistake it to be not a public park because of the gates, but it is open to the public. There is no green space but it is just a playground.

Harborside Park

501 Park Ave, Hoboken

Harborside Park has awesome views of the city and it is refreshing to be close to the Hudson River and enjoy the water. People can go for walks, which is especially impactful in the early mornings during sunrise. There are two gated playgrounds with a beautiful shaded gazebo. One is for older kids and the other for toddlers. It’s perfect for families and is adjacent to an open grass field.

Stevens Park 

401 Hudson Street (Btw 4th & 5th St.)

Stevens Park is perfect for all families! The park has small playground areas with a shaded sprinkler park in between. They also have a ton of green open space. There is a baseball field here and kids often like picking up food from the concession stand and watching Little League games. The park is dog-friendly and has a fenced dog park. It has gorgeous waterfront views which can be enjoyed during the daytime as well as during the beautifully lit-up nights. There is no bathroom in this park. There are many restaurants here that one can visit after enjoying the park.

Jefferson Park

1st Jefferson St, Hoboken, NJ

Jefferson Park, located on Jefferson Street between 1st and 2nd Streets, was recently renovated to maximize park space with brand new playground equipment for children of different ages, two climbing structures, and a new turf safety surface. It is a good spot for local kids to get together and spend their activity time.

Maxwell Park

11th Sinatra Dr. N, Hoboken

Maxwell Park is on the waterfront of Hoboken. It includes a gated playground, swings, a picnic table, and a full grass area. This park is great for the whole family. There is a beach area that people can enjoy. The bathrooms are in the boat house. There’s plenty of walking area and paths. The picnicking facility includes about 10 tables on the waterfront. You can enjoy food with your family while taking in the wonderful city skyline. The playgrounds for the children are suitable for both younger ones and older kids. There are 2 dog parks – one bigger, which is located on the upper part. Maxwell Park also affords some great views at night and if you are looking for a spot to view the fireworks, this park is the place you should head to. Especially if the fireworks is on the Hudson River and not on the East River.

7th & Jackson Park and Gym

600-620 7th St, Hoboken

Approximately 1 acre of the 7th and Jackson Resiliency Park has an open grass area with public seating and a children’s play area. They have a beautiful playground for kids to enjoy with slides. It serves the growing mixed-use area of the city. It has a public plaza that features step seating. There is a bouldering area for relaxing and passive gatherings.  The plaza area can accommodate vendors and seasonal markets. The best part is that it also has a large multi-use public gymnasium.

As the summer speeds along you want to make the most of the sunny days since even in summer, there is the possibility of the requirement to herd the family indoors due to wet weather. Hasten with all the picnics, surfing, camping, biking, or hiking, or visiting the water parks or sprinkler parks. As summer wanes the outdoor events and activities would be fewer. But then you have plenty to explore in Hoboken as well as Jersey City.
