Summer is relatively short, so it’s important to pack as much as you can into the three short months when the kids are out of school, not at summer camp, and when parents (hopefully) have a little extra time to go out there and play!

If you are looking for fun ways to spend the summer days with your family, we made a comprehensive list of every single fun summer events for families in the Jersey City and Hoboken area. We hope you can get to enjoy spending fun days at the park whether it is for farmer’s market or learning about getting fit and healthy.

Please note that some events we have listed are free, and while some have a nominal cost, please do check the links we have provided to find more information as you plan your fun summer itinerary.

Friday, May 31st • 6 pm

Opening Party

Formerly known as the Riverview Jazz FESTIVAL, the 10-day celebration will begin with an opening party at J Owen Grundy Pier and culminate in a two-day outdoor free-to-the-public festival on the Newark Pedestrian Plaza near the Grove Path.

Events during Jazz Week will be hosted throughout Jersey City and will include a featured show ar White Eagle Hall. The seventh year of the Festival is sponsored in part by Bank of America and made possible through partnerships with WBGO, the Historic Downtown SID, the City of Jersey City, Hudson County, and Exchange Place Alliance.

SJC Green Drinks +ART

Wednesday, June 5th • 6 am – 9 PM

SJC Green Drinks +ART will be hosting those who have an interest in sustainability and would like to meet other like-minded people. Who knows, maybe you will leave with a neighborhood project in mind and some new friends to help you do it! Join Us If You Can 🙂

LITM is the fabulously friendly downtown hang with great drinks and food (in case you want to stay for dinner !) and their monthly art shows offer a really creative vibe in the heart of JC’s restaurant row. December features a mixed media multi-artist show called Small Wonders – 100s of small works for sale just in time for the holidays.

4th Annual VVPA Golf Outing

Friday, June 7th • 4 pm- 10 pm

“Go Clubbing” with your neighbors and friends! Golfers play a fun and challenging 9 holes round with your neighbors for lots of prizes and laughs! If Happy Hour and dancing is more your speed, with a little putt putt contest thrown in, you’re in luck because they got that too!!

Hudson River Loop Walk & World Oceans Day 2019

Saturday, June 8th • 8 am – 6 pm

It is Freewalkers’ 7th annual Hudson River Loop Walk! This special event is a one-day 30-mile walk along the Hudson bordering NYC and NJ.

This year help us celebrate World Ocean’s Day, an annual awareness and celebration of our valuable water resources around the world. While many are celebrating in different venues around the world, we will participate in World Oceans Day NJ/NYC to honor the ocean, which connects us all. We’ll have special activities such as “plogging” (picking up refuse) along the way, creating human formations and learning more about how we can share and protect our ocean.

5th Annual Bayonne Home Town Fair! 150 Years of Bayonne

Bayonne Home Town Fair returns with the Fifth Annual Bayonne Hometown Fair on Bayonne’s 150th year as a City. The expanded beer garden will be back again by popular demand. The Event will include Children’s Rides, Games, Local Merchants, Specialty Vendors, Food Vendors, Non-profits, Musical entertainment and so much more!

Fair will be held on June: Saturday, June 8th at 11 am until 8 pm, and Sunday, June 9th at 12 noon until 6 pm on Broadway in the heart of town, between 21st Street and 25th Street.

Hamilton Park Festival 2019

Saturday, June 8th • 12 pm – 6 pm

 Come celebrate the 34th Hamilton Park Festival hosted by the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association. Enjoy live music, food, & entertainment. There will be a petting zoo, magician, and bouncy house for kids while parents browse/purchase used and new items from vendor tables and meet local non-profit organizations.

GO Jersey City

SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH • 10 AM- 1 PM

Join your neighbors for our 2019 GO Jersey City. Saturday June 8th, 10AM-1PM. Go Jersey City is funded and lead by the members of Downtown Community Church. GO is a day of service and fun where residents of Downtown Jersey City, and beyond, go out and serve organizations and parks throughout the city. It is a way for us to give back and support the people and places that make our city great.

Registration and check in on June 8th at City Hall Plaza, starting at 10AM. You will be greeted with our 2019 free T-Shirt, along with free coffee and light breakfast. From there, we head out with our teams to our various projects. Then when we’re done at 1 pm. There will be a free after-party at Hudson Hall with free food, games, and prizes!

Worldwide Knit in Public – Jersey City 

SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH • 12 PM – 6 PM

Worldwide Knit in Public Day – Jersey City (Official) is a community drop-in gathering to promote the art of knitting and related yarn crafts such as crochet, spinning and weaving. Everyone is welcome!

Join in for:

Tips for beginner and advanced knit and crochet
Giveaways (while supplies last)
Connect with other residents who knit or crochet
Wellness presentation on how to reduce stress with yarn crafts
Yarn swift and ball winder will be available (first come, first served)

The event is at Van Vorst Park at 12pm to 6pm.

A Swingin’ Spring Concert

SUNDAY, JUNE 9TH• 4 PM-6 PM

North River Sing will be hosting it’s Spring Concert on June 9th at Grace Church Van Vorst. It is a family event where you can enjoy your Sunday afternoon of stylish jazz standards and show tunes. There will be a light reception to follow with lots of yummy food, wine, and other beverages. There is no entrance fee for the concert, however, suggested donation is $15.00. The concert will take place at Grace Church Van Vorst on 2nd Street between Erie and Jersey in downtown Jersey City.

It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy good conversation. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a current health topic, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk and conversation with a doc.

Evening Under the Stars w/ York Street Project

Thursday, June 13th • 6 pm-9 pm

Summer Events for Families in Jersey City and Hoboken

The best block party of the year is back for the 9th year in a row! Tickets include unlimited tastings from all our food and drink vendors. Entertainment for the night will be live music from the Jersey shore cover band, “enjoy!”

All proceeds from the event and Super Raffle support the York Street Project programs that deliver solutions to break the cycle of poverty.

New Jersey Food and Beer Festival

Bagapalooza

The Office of Sustainability is co-hosting a reusable bag event with Cultural Affairs and the Jersey City Public Schools. “Bagapalooza” will have crafts and games for kids with the Educational Arts Project, a plastic bag weaving project, a live painting from the Jersey City Mural Arts Program, live music, and a reusable bag giveaway featuring the winning logo of the Sustainable STEAM Challenge. The event will be at City Hall Plaza and it is free.

Safe Summer For Jersey City

Jersey City’s Police Department is hosting a free event for the community. The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public. There will be a ton of food, drinks and prizes. The events are all around JC so you can see when the event is in your district.

Cocktails for Cats: 15th Anniversary Party & Fundraiser for CAT

Sat.-SUN., June 22-23rd • 11 am-7 pm

THE JERSEY CITY PROJECT + the CITY OF JERSEY CITY will celebrate warm days, cool drinks and delicious eats with the annual PROJECT: EATS on June 22 + 23, 2019. Liberty Harbor is going to the dogs Saturday, June 29th for an afternoon of dog-centric vendors, exhibitors, and service providers.

It is Lucky 7’s 8th Annual L7’s Rock ‘n Roll BBQ! The 2nd street will be shut down to make room for ice cold beer from Peerless Beverage Company, The Brooklyn Brewery can station, whiskey, bands, BBQ, cornhole, and human-size beer pong!
